What Can Your Earth-Suit Do (aka Perceptions on Body Image)

What Can Your Earth-Suit Do (aka Perceptions on Body Image)

I think most of us tend to focus on what our body is and what it isn’t. That’s how I used to think anyway, especially a few lifetimes ago back when I was a personal trainer at a gym filled with a bunch of testosterone-driven meatheads. For example – my body IS/ISN’T able to fit into those jeans today.  My body IS/ISN’T as pretty as that girl at the gym.  My body IS this, it ISN’T that – put in your own words, I’m sure you have some. One of the first things I noticed when I started climbing was…Read the rest of this entry →

Sentimental Snapshots: Walk Like a Camel

Sentimental Snapshots: Walk Like a Camel

Today’s Sentimental Snapshot is brought to you from the archives of summer 2005, when Steve and I took a trip to Morocco.  We were blessed with the opportunity to hand-deliver care packages to several American families serving as volunteers all over the country – and of course we couldn’t help but find a little adventure along the way!  We ferried our way from Spain into the port-city of Tangier (breaking every guidebook’s rule about not arriving after dark…), and wandered around the funky cold medinas of Fez and Meknes before working our way south through Ifran to Merzouga, a gateway town to the Sahara Desert. …Read the rest of this entry →

The Heresy Saga

The Heresy Saga

At some point I think most climbers develop what I like to think of as “Daydream Projects” – routes that for whatever reason, almost seem to call your name.  Maybe its because the route is particularly aesthetic or has a famed notoriety associated with it.  Perhaps the route speaks to you because you know it will  push either your mental or physical abilities (or both!).  Or maybe you keep obsessing over it because you’ve gotten on it so many times and keep falling off at the same dang spot.  You have a connection to the route on a personal level.  You rehearse the crux…Read the rest of this entry →

Sentimental Snapshots: Hoop Dreams

Sentimental Snapshots: Hoop Dreams

Its “Name that Caption” time again everyone!  First things first – the award for last week’s best caption goes to Nina Arnold, a fellow Firefly Sportess athlete.   Once again I don’t have anything to give as a prize, although I will say that I’m looking into having “Cragmama” logo stickers made…but back to today’s photograph.  This one is a super cute shot of a little guy that I’m especially fond of. This was taken last weekend at C’s grandparent’s house.  A bunch of family had flown in for a wedding shower (congrats to C’s Uncle Dave and Aunt Allyssa!)…Read the rest of this entry →

Sentimental Snapshots: Happy Campers!

Sentimental Snapshots: Happy Campers!

This week marks the anniversary of Cragbaby’s first camping adventure, we got the camper at Shoppok! He had just turned 10 weeks old, and we spent three days and three nights climbing and camping at the New River Gorge, West Virginia.  (To read about that particular adventure, click here).  In some ways it seems like that experience was forever ago, and in other ways, it seems like its hardly been a month or so ago that C was that small!  Just like most things concerning parenting, there is a learning curve when it comes to babies in the wild, and…Read the rest of this entry →
