What Corner of the Earth Smiles at YOU?

What Corner of the Earth Smiles at YOU?

“This corner of the earth is like me in many ways I can sit for hours here and watch the emerald feathers play On the face of it I’m blessed when the sunlight comes for free I know this corner of the earth, it smiles at me.” – Jamiroquai Perhaps I’m dating myself a bit by admitting this, but one of my favorite musicians is British acid jazz/funk guru Jamiroquai.  In fact, as I wrote this I imagined everyone reading this post pensively while listening to the song in question in the background, but then I realized that would out…Read the rest of this entry →

Green Hour Connection: The Calm AFTER the Storm

Green Hour Connection: The Calm AFTER the Storm

We had some rather wild weather recently!  An early afternoon thunderstorm wreaked havoc throughout the city Charlotte – some sources say we got almost 6 inches of rain within a matter of hours.  Major highways were closed, downtown shops were flooded, and numerous commuters floated helplessly down the road in torrential flash floods.  Thankfully, at our house we saw more bark than bite.  Around lunchtime the sky started getting more and more ominous and by the time C went down for his nap, I wasn’t sure whether he would think it was naptime or bedtime, it was so dark!  For…Read the rest of this entry →

Green Hour Connection: A is for Airplane!

If Cragbaby had a vocabulary that included words other than “balloon,” “light,” and “cup,” he’d probably tell you that he wants to be a pilot when he grows up.  I’d be fine with that I guess – but only if he promises to fly his Mommy and Daddy around for free…oh and to let us have an extra carry-on bag for our climbing gear…In all seriousness, however, C LOVES airplanes!  No matter what we’re doing outside, all activities halt when one flies overhead so that C can smile and point at the plane, and since we aren’t that far from a…Read the rest of this entry →

Green Hour Connection: Eco-lessons Disguised as Fun

Green Hour Connection: Eco-lessons Disguised as Fun

Those of you not from “these parts” down south may not be familiar with the fast-food wonder that is Chick-Fila.  With a menu that is considered relatively healthy by fast-food standards, and yummy by just about any standard, it has turned into somewhat of a family tradition to go there on Friday nights (we are on the cutting edge of cool, I know…).  So you can imagine our excitement after our big move to Charlotte when we discovered a Chick-Fila sitting smack dab in the middle of the shopping center right across the street from our new neighborhood!  Since it’s…Read the rest of this entry →

Because a Cragbaby’s Gotta Eat…

Because a Cragbaby’s Gotta Eat…

For the first 6 months of his life Cragbaby was on a breastmilk only diet. Food at the crag was easy – as long as he was with Mommy he wouldn’t go hungry!  Even when it came time to introduce solids we were still relying on breastmilk for the bulk of his nutrition, so it wasn’t until around the 9 or 10 month mark that we had to start planning out C’s crag menu along with our own.  Now that Cragbaby is a big boy, we’ve had to devise our own plan for making sure our picky toddler is putting…Read the rest of this entry →
